International Women in Engineering Day

June 23rd has been established as International Women in Engineering Day, a global awareness campaign highlighting the outstanding achievements of women in the field of engineering.  

The Cyprus Architects Association – Women in Architecture Committee, honoured this day by organizing an event on 19 June 2024, at the Nicosia Municipality Event Hall, featuring the distinguished architect from Greece, Mrs Theoni Xanthi, co-founder and CEO of the architectural firm XZA Architects.

The event was addressed by:

• First Lady Philippa Karsera Christodoulides
• Josie Christodoulou, Commissioner for Gender Equality 
• Myria Constantinidou, Vice President of the Cyprus Architects Association, who presented the goals and activities of the Women in Architecture Committee

A Round Table Discussion on the subject of “Gender Segregation in the Construction Sector” also took place, with Architect Polina Antoniadou Kokkinou being the moderator.  Participants were:

• Antonia Theodosiou, Architect, Commissioner for the Environment
• Theoni Xanthi, Architect
• Constantinos Konstantis, President of ETEK
• Maria Charalambidou, Architect, President of the Town Planning Council
• Afroditi Psara, Civil Engineer, CEO of N. Psaras Construction Co.
